A single course of treatment involves an initial attendance by the
specialist and then the continuing management of the condition as needed until
the patient is referred back to the referring practitioner.
GP Referrals are usually for 12 months. However a GP can write and indefinite referral to a specialist where a chronic condition exists.
Specialist to Specialist referrals are usually 3 months unless a longer period is stated on the referral.
