Impulse Instruction Under Impulse Immunisation.
The following Information is supplied by Medicare for Individual Medical Contrdiction Record.
Medical contraindication is a type of immunisation medical exemption on the AIR, which are recorded for vaccines and their components.
Medical contraindications recorded on the AIR for a vaccine can be:
- permanent – there is no end date
- temporary – the end date is in the future
This means that the individual is not required to be vaccinated with that vaccine, or equivalents, during therecorded contraindication period.
The Department of Health may also consider them up to date with immunisations for the purposes of:
- child care enrolments
- overdue reminder letters
- overdue reporting for providers, and
- meeting requirements for family assistance payments
Valid reasons for a permanent immunisation medical exemption on the AIR due to a medical contraindication
are:
- previous anaphylaxis (to vaccine/vaccine component)
- significant immunocompromise (for live attenuated vaccines only)
Valid reasons for temporary immunisation medical exemption on the AIR due to a medical contraindication are:
- acute major medical illness
- significant immunocompromise of short duration (live attenuated vaccines only)
- the individual is pregnant (live attenuated vaccines only)
The AIR Individual Medical Contraindication Record is an update Web Service which will process the request and send a response message in real-time.
Following the positive identification of an individual and using their individual identifier, this service will:
- Record a vaccine exemption due to medical contraindication, and
- Add the vaccine exemption to their medical contraindication history with the start date as the date recorded on the AIR.

Impulse Medico- Legal providers only can access this functionality.
Patient Details
- Select Patient details from the left hand side taskbar or Top taskbar on the main screen of Impulse.
- Search and select the patient.
- In Patient Details enter the patients IHI number located next to Unique Id on the right hand side of the screen if known.
Click the IHI\AIR Button
Individual Health Identifier and AIR Online Screen Opens
- Click Get AIR Button
- This AIR Button must be clicked first to retrieve the Encrypted file containing patients information.
- You will not be able to select any other option on this screen without That file.
- Tick then Retrieve patient AIR Contraindication History.
- Indicate if the individual has any medical contraindication recorded on the AIR.
- Click the Get Reports Button
This returns the Statement of the option requested.
Select tab 7 Immunisation on the bottom taskbar of the Patient Details screen.
- Click Add
- Click Add Button on the navigation bar to add a new Immunisation record when Immunisation Register Screen opens.
- Select Contraindications Button at top of screen.
- Screen opens
- Click Add
- Select vaccine
- Select Type, Permanent or Temporary
- Provide Reason
- Anaphylaxis Date
- Tick to Save
- Click Send to AIR Button.
This transmits details in real time.
