PRODA Requirements Prior to AIR Transmission

3 Health Care Indentifiers are required to be entered into Impulse prior to Entering Immunisation details.

Individual Healthcare Identifier (IHI)

Healthcare Provider Identifier–Individual (HPI–I)

Healthcare Provider Identifier–Organisation (HPI–O)


Set Up\Provider Location.

This must be completed prior to sending an Immunisation Claim.

The following Information is supplied by Medicare.
To access the AIR, health professionals and health care locations must become a recognised vaccination provider.
A medical practitioner, midwife or nurse practitioner must have a Medicare provider number.
Both Medicare provider and other vaccination provider types must complete the following form:
servicesaustralia.gov.au/organisations/health-professionals/forms/hw027 before using Impulse. 
  1. You must provide the Minor ID for their location in order to fully complete the form and submit AIR. 
  2. This is important as the AIR system verifies the Minor ID for each location with the information provider number for authentication and authorisation purposes for every AIR request.
  3. A location could be a medical practice with 10 medical practitioners (10 different information provider numbers). 
  4. The Location must have a valid PRODA organisation account with the associated permissions to transmit to AIR.
  5. The location’s PRODA organisation credentials are successfully verified for the Web Service Request by the Services Australia agency.
  6. The transmitting location (Minor Id) and the organisation’s associated PRODA account have been registered (linked) with the Medicare Online/ECLIPSE/DVA/AIR service provider.

Set Up\Provider Location [ Top Taskbar of Main screen] 
Select The Provider from the bottom Provider List.
  1. Click Edit
On the right hand side of the top section of the screen, enter the following details:
  1. Prov ID Individual:  Enter Healthcare Provider Identifier–Individual
  2. Prov ID Organisation: Enter Healthcare Provider Identifier–Organisation.
  3. Click The Button Air Access List to retrieve the access the provider has to the AIR.
Tick to save.



Patient Details

Individual Health Identifier. 

This information Must be entered.

The Impulse Logged in provider needs to be a Medico-Legal Login to Impulse to Retrieve the AIR Individual Details.

Participating health professionals may utilise the services and information provided including personal information only in accordance with National (Privacy Act 1988, Health Insurance Act 1973,
Australian Immunisation Register Act 2015 and other relevant legislation), State or Territory legislation, Policy and Guidelines.
Participating health professionals are advised to verify that their intended use of services and information does not contravene any applicable legislation or regulations
or is inconsistent with any applicable policy or guidance.
All transactions with AIR Web Services are recorded in the System Log by the Service Operator, Services Australia (the agency).


Medicare assigns IHIs to every person enrolled in Medicare or registered with the Department of Veterans’ Affairs.

The AIR is a national register that records all vaccinations given to individuals of all ages living in Australia.

The following Information is supplied by Medicare.
AIR Individual Health Identify 
The AIR Identify Individual searches the AIR database which has records for individuals who are on a Medicare card and also those who are non-eligible for Medicare with vaccinations recorded. 
Therefore, this service is unique to the AIR and different to the Online Patient Verification (OPV) and Online Veteran Verification (OVV) functions within Medicare Online. 
The AIR Identify Individual API is a retrieve Web Service which will process the request and send a response message in real-time.  
This service will: 
  1. Validate the data entered for an individual’s details as recorded on the AIR.
  2. Identify and match an individual. 
  3. Assign an individual identifier to that individual. 
  4. Send a response with the individual’s details and an individual identifier. 
  5. Return indicators about the individual’s immunisation history on the AIR.
The AIR Individual Details Retrieval and Report in Impulse allows authorised and recognised vaccination providers to:
  1. Search for an individual on the AIR using a variety of identifiers.
  2. Retrieve an individual’s immunisation history as record on the AIR.
  3. Request an individual’s immunisation history statement.
  4. Retrieve an individual’s medical exemption history as recorded on the AIR.
  5. Update certain personal details about the individual.
  6. Update editable immunisation encounter/s they already recorded on the AIR
Impulse Patient Details
Select Patient details from the left hand side taskbar or Top taskbar on the main screen of Impulse.
Search and select the patient.
In Patient Details enter the patients IHI number located next to Unique Id on the right hand side of the screen.
Authorised vaccine providers can also click the IHI\AIR Button
This allows the provider to Retrieve AIR information pertaining to the Patient selected and the Access the provider has to AIR.
Save this entry.

Get IHI Button

This  IHI Button must be clicked first to retrieve the Encrypted file containing patients information.
You will not be able to select any other option on this screen without That file.

If any of the options Below are ticked then Click the Get Reports Button
Retrieve patient AIR Immunisation History.
Individual Immunisation History Details are returned including
Patient First name, Surname, Date of Birth, Address, Medicare card Number and IRN, Indigenous Status, additional Vaccines.
Retrieve patient AIR Contraindication History.
Indicate if the individual has any medical contraindication recorded on the AIR.
Retrieve patient AIR Natural Immunity History.
Indicates if the individual has any natural immunity recorded on the AIR.
Retrieve patient AIR trials History.
Indicates if the individual has any vaccine trial recorded on the AIR.
Request patient AIR Immunisation history Statement.
This returns the Statement of the option requested.
